Hmm

As finals approach i wonder how much time I've wasted doing things I know I have developed as a procrastination technique. Never have I cleaned my room more diligently than when I have a six page paper due and three handouts to read, the task ahead I push to the back of my mind, and think to myself how lovely it would be to paint a picture of someone being productive. Perhaps I'll leave the book open in front of me, that counts as work right?

Supposing I actually do have a problem, I really have the worst time trying to overcome it. honestly though, who would expect that someone literally has physical aversions (head aches, anxiety, etc.) to truly being productive. I need to figure that one out, maybe i need a depresser so I don't freak out.

Anyways, my suite mate recently sent me a copy of Warcraft 3, and we have LAN parties in the lounge now, terrible idea to couple with my procrastination. I spent a solid 6 hours playing on monday night, a good way to break a person into something is to make their eyeballs dry out and their wrist cramp i suppose.... good job Blizzard.. so my productive world is gone, but who cares, I'm the Keeper of Light and my minions will wreck you, sir.

Ah the argument of an old man.

he's damn right we're vulnerable and competition is stiffer. It's ridiculous what hoops you have to jump through just to go to highschool in highly populated areas. Instant gratification is the newest trend in capitalism. that and, what have you done for me lately? So everything has to be newer, faster, better, Faster, Stronger. That's just life now i suppose. For those of us who choose to take a more relaxed approach, outsiders if you will, life can still be more fully enjoyed on a more personal level without the ever expanding reach of social networks of people you've had a drink with before or have seen you do that thing you do by chance.

So moving on, is it funny or tragic the way you call the neighbor you grew up with and that person you added yesterday on facebook, friend? the prof touches on that but really, it's pretty bad considering how impersonal our personal lives have gotten. Not to mention that someone somewhere has everything thats ever been on facebook or myspace stockpiled somewhere and can blackmail us in the years to come, heres to you future politician, your career is now null and void via facebook.

The workforce is going to be extremely hard to break into. Think about applying for a position you're not connected to, how many other undergraduates are also qualified for your job? are you the best? its depressing to think about so stop now. So instead go to graduate school. uh oh, whats that? other students, like, yourself, from across the country want to do the same thing? are you the best? are you guaranteed a spot? are you stressed yet??? you should be.

Speaking of Super Smash Bros.

HOLY CRAP!

this is probably the worst decision of my life, but I played Brawl when I got back from break. For the past 3 days, Ive been immersed in the wonderfully violent world of SuperSmash Bros.

and now Im going to play again.

Computer, on!

Hologram screens, 3D space touch control. Count me in! I want room images for me to watch and explore, walk around. i want to literally surf the internet. Am I the one that's going to create that? I don't think so. but hey. please please please let me experience that.

granted, all these things have bugs and glitches, but to pioneer the digital age? I think its like louis and clark, magellan... a college tour guide? Its just cool.

anyways, leave me to my wii. and supersmash bros for now.

Google's medical records

Okay Google, lets see if you're soulless or wonderful

My pediatrician still has solely paper files of all patients medical records that could very well take a decade to re-record digitally. If this works out, Google has just made every parents dream come true. No need to go to the doctor to have a file ordered that has your kid's last Tetanus shot date. Summer camp deadlines, no problem now! How about those pesky booster reminders. Now you could probably have an e-mail sent to you.

However, if these files aren;t protected, whats to stop ads from coming to your inbox from companies wanting to test new drugs on possible medical conditions you may or may not have according to your medical reports? what if information leaked about embarrassing situations, not to be insensitive, but abortions, STI's, Drug overdoses? Most of the general public don't want that to be available on the world wide web. I'm just saying.

Definitely Looking Forward to Spring Break

Today definitely reminds me why I want the break to come.

Start the day at 7 am. cram a shower, studying, "breakfast" (redbull, and a powerbar) before class.
Find my laptop battery drained, remember I may or may not have a quiz in geography. (i may or may not be very organized) 8,9,10 classes, finish a paper, e-mail it to my professor, get carry-out from the caf. Stop. More Caffeine. Lab! look at rocks for 3 hours, finish the homework before the teacher comes around (i may not be very organized). Realize I'm behind on my blog postings. (i'm not very organized.) NOW I NEED TO GO TO DINNER! then I go to class... but nto before writing a review article. crap.

determining what's private

who decides where that distinction is? isn't it dangerous for a person to bebrowsing an arms website? and at the same time isn't it legal? Who determines what I do is threatening befor eits too late? is there a preemptive move to ensure the things we do are not going to harm other people without abusing the police powers of the state?

Trusting human judgment hasn't exactly helped the world 100%. Who can you watch? just questions with no answers unfortunately

A trip to Pennsylvania

I finally got out of William and Mary this Semester for a short trip.

Visited Abby in Bucknell. Its a small University in Lewisburg, PA but nice

It was the first snow I've seen all season and it was definitely a welcome sight. We spent time with coffee movies, the mall, and some good ol' applebees. I'm a romantic.

I miss it. That's about the most important thing I can tell you.

Just a great weekend I suppose.

on the subject of Net Neutrality

More importantly it seems is Net "EQUALITY!"

Cross Country High Speed, that's a goal for the future that really depends on time. The current Internet however, should be the same speed for all sites. Granted, streaming a video that's an hour long will take longer than a .gif animation but really, when youtube loads at different speeds depending on my home computer (provided by cox) or the school laptop, I feel that there has been considerable gippage to coin a phrase.

Anyway, I'm not sure what AT&T lobbyists are accomplishing, but if they can monopolize our market I want to see some smart people on the public's side fighting to get us three generations caught up with Denmark, the Nokia N70 still costs $400 dollars stateside and Nokia is in the P series now I believe, I'm going to go ahead and call bullshit on that.

speaking of cell phones, why do we still lose service in places next to a freaking tower? just saying.
